and just where
do you think you're going with your good bag and your cheap shoes?
i watched a lot [read: a lot] of movies this memorial day weekend.
not much else to do, what with the 3-day deluge and all.
this movie was one of them...
you're sooo ambitious, aren't you...?
you know what you look like to me,
with your good bag and your cheap shoes?
you look like a rube. a well-scrubbed,
hustling rube with a little taste...
good nutrition has given you some length of bone,
but you're not more than one generation
from poor white trash, are you, officer starling...?
that accent you're trying so desperately to shed --
pure west virginia. what was your father, dear?
was he a coal miner? did he stink of the lamp...?
and oh, how quickly the boys found you!
all those tedious, sticky fumblings,
in the back seats of cars,
while you could only dream of getting out.
getting anywhere -- yes?
getting all the way -- to the f...b...i.
other movie picks included: candy,
the
da vinci code, and breaking
and entering. i only rented da vinci code because i was
embarrassed of the fact that i'd never seen it. oh, and that i own
the book and have never picked it up to read it. oh, and while your
gasping for breath from that last sentence, just know that i know
that you did the same damned thing, so zip it.
and i only rented the other two movies because one contained heath
ledger and the other contained jude
law. well, at least i'm honest, right?
have good tuesdays. people work on tuesdays.
about 2 years
ago, maybe even longer, a few guys i know threw a pool party over
memorial day weekend. a similar event was to take place this weekend,
but was canceled due to inclement weather here in houston as well
as other logistical reasons.
since i missed it this year, i decided to pull out these photos
from that first pool party and think happy thoughts about the summer
to come.
happy memorial day. enjoy your 3-day weekend. make it count.
i
went to see the houston ballet last night. they were putting on
a show of christopher wheeldon's carnival of the animals. i'm not
much for the ballet. opera is more my thing. but it helped that
these tickets were for one of the founders' boxes.
it
also was well worth it for two other reasons:
001 :: to see oliver halkowich jumping around on stage in tights
002 :: to see john lithgow dressed as an enormous school nurse being
carried around by guys who all look like oliver halkowich jumping
around on stage in tights.
and i was beginning to wonder if there even was a god.
have a great friday. and a good holiday weekend. make it count.
  i
cannot express in words just how elated i am to be back in the bayou
city. traveling -- for work, that is -- completely bites the big
one. and i'm grateful i don't have to do it often. i'm just sayin'.
this
family, which i photographed making their way into the mobile, ala.,
airport, was supposed to be on my flight back to houston, but they
never made it to the plane.
total mystery to me as to why.
stupid family.

i've dreaded these
first two weeks in may. i've been dreading them for quite some time.
now, don't get me wrong. i'm making the most of them. i honestly
am. i'm just none too happy about having to live through them.
i don't know how you all are with your jobs, but i've been terrible
with mine. i've struggled for years over whether to stay or go,
and years have gone by, and i'm still there. something to assess
in 2007 and hopefully to change in 2008, right?
this week, i've been attending this.
and on sunday i fly to east bumf*ck, alabama, to attend this.
could two weeks have even been packed with more excitement? i think
not.
keep on keepin' on, and i'll be posting more often from here on
out.
in other news, i just found these two photos. one was taken in mid-february
2007 and the other was just taken a few days ago. see any differences?
work in progress, to be sure...
