30.11.06 :: half-nekkid thursday, part iv

happy hnt! this photo is dedicated to the "blue norther" that will be reaching houston sometime later this morning. it will actually get really, really cold here in the bayou city, and all i can think about is how i will maintain my tan (some really sick shit going on in this head-o-mine.)

anywho, i want you all to make it count today. good tennis, good golf, or whatever makes you happy.

say goodnight, marvin.

goodnight, marvin.

29.11.06 :: why can't my ba.ll.oo.n stay up in a perfectly windy sky?

lots of things to prepare for in the next couple of days. half-nekkid thursday is tomorrow. also, world aids day is friday. more about both of these in later posts.

also coming up on friday will be a special daily feature (dedicated to my brother and sister-in-law) entitled, "what's in lonestarsteve's christmas cabinet? -- the 25 days of christmas." curious? i thought you would be. my explanation goes a little something like this ...

back in 2003, i purchased a 25-door christmas cabinet for my parents from some fancy-schmancy catalogue (see inset photos). not wanting to give it to them empty, i decided to fill each little doored cubby with a small gift -- a piece of chocolate, a tree ornament, jewelry, etc. -- you get the idea.

well, my parents loved the gift and the next thanksgiving, we collectively came up with the idea to start a family tradition in which the recipient(s) of the cabinet would fill it again with gifts the following christmas and give it to another family member. thus, in 2003, i gave the cabinet to my parents. in 2004, my parents filled the cabinet and gave it to my younger brother and his family. in 2005, they filled it again and gave it to my older brother and his then-girlfriend (now wife). and this year, they have filled the cabinet and have shipped it all the way from pennsyltucky to houston for me to open each day starting on dec. 1.

fun, huh? so, with that explanation, starting on friday i will post a photo of each open door and reveal to you, my gentle readers, what's inside lonestarsteve's christmas cabinet.

(god, i am so incredibly gay it physically hurts me sometimes).

28.11.06 :: what would jesus drink?

this post goes out to my neighbor and friend, mary, who recently stocked up on her southern comfort egg nog for the holiday season. from the late show with david letterman on dec. 19, 2003, here are the top 10 questions to ask yourself before buying egg nog ...

010 :: "am i feeling sufficiently noggy today?"
009 :: "what's the best egg-to-nog ratio?"
008 :: "i have high cholesterol -- is there egg white nog?"
007 :: "w
hat other disgusting egg-based beverages could i try?"
006 :: "h
as this egg nog been approved by the nogmaster general?"
005 ::
"is egg my best choice of nog?"
004 ::
"which one's the egg nog that all the rappers drink?"
00
3 :: "do i really feel like drinking this crap?"
002 ::
"what would jesus drink?"
001 ::
"how long will this stuff keep in my spider hole?"

it's tuesday. people work on tuesday. now get off your ass and get into that office! peace out.

27.11.06 :: thought that was a good solution, hanging with the raisin girls

i meant to post this photo weeks back, but i forgot it was on my camera. when my friend laura and i were shopping down in rice village during her visit to houston, we stopped by chloe dao's store, lot 8. it wasn't open (of course) and chloe was nowhere to be seen, but i had to get a photo to proove i'd been there.

pointless, actually. posing in front of a store that you haven't been inside, i realize. but then again, what's not to say i won't be back? of course, she sells mostly dresses, which again, is pointless for me.

what's my point? i can't say that i have one. not today anyway.

26.11.06 :: left to my own devices, i probably would

long weekend. exhausting physically, mentally, emotionally. the roundup always does that to me, regardless of how much i do there. this year i only attended some of the speaker meetings, the play, and the banquet last night. but that was enough. i'm still on the mend, you see, and my activities (and my energy level) are somewhat limited at best.

that said, can i just say that there were some hot, hot, hotties in attendance at this year's event. too bad i couldn't really partake. too many complications. but i gave out my number to a few of them, so hopefully somewhere down the line, who knows what will happen?

i need to get this body of mine under control. long-time readers of this site will recall that i made an attempt to quit smoking in early september. i say "attempt" because it didn't exactly take, you know? it lasted 2 weeks actually. so, i need to kick that habit by jan. 1. and i need to heal as much as possible so that i can get active again -- back to the gym, in other words. i'm sick of being this big, fat blob of a human being and i really need to get that taken care of. my survival as a middle-aged gay man depends on it. (or does it?).

full week of work coming up. no rest for the overworked. left to my own devices ...

24.11.06 :: tuna. rubber. a little blubber in my igloo ...

it's been more than a few weeks since updating this blog-o'-mine. i have either not been in the blogging mood, or just too, too tired to post anything. not that nothing has been going on. it has.

for example, last thursday i underwent a surgical biopsy that fortunately came back on wednesday: benign. it has been a long year with regard to treating and diagnosing this situation. it all began back in march and has been ongoing ever since. i'm hoping that with this procedure, it will be the end of it for at least a little while. i could definitely use the break, physically and emotionally.

the one thing i have to say about the whole experience is this: with people living longer and healthier lives while infected with the hiv virus, the prospect of dying due to an opportunistic infection (brought on by being hiv+) is the least of our worries as of late. other areas of health have come into play, be they heart problems, cancers, etc. so, with that said, i just have to express my gratitude for having access to the type of healthcare that has gotten me thorough this situation. my doctors rock! now let the healing begin, you know what i'm saying?

in other news, it was thanksgiving yesterday. did all of you get your birds stuffed in time? i know i did. a friend of mine sent this photo to me (see above). i think that it's sexist, but i'm posting it anyway. this isn't what my turkey looked like. mine had a cucumber stuffed in the crotch. same effect, however. you get the gist.

i heard some news from dress-for-pay (or benefit) drag queen kaye sedilla about the next season of project runway, the release time of which is yet to be announced by bravo. it would seem that tim gunn has not yet been signed on to cohost the show's 4th season. also, if the show is to be filmed at parsons, it will have to wait until june, gunn says, after the design school lets out for summer. and since the show itself is bravo's biggest runaway hit, and the success of the show lies largely on the presence of tim "i-just-consumed-an-entire-dictionary" gunn, it would be incredibly stupid for the network to not bring back both the show and it's no. 1 star.

according to the chicago tribune's maureen ryan, gunn is "
not under contract for a fourth season," although he is quoted as saying he'd be back "in a heartbeat" if asked back.

in addition, ryan notes, "filming most likely would not commence until parsons-the new school of design, where the show is usually shot, has finished up its academic year in may." the paper goes on to say that gunn "noted that the school just wouldn’t have room for 'runway' filming until the academic year was over."

11.11.06 :: whirlwind weekend ...

i've got a friend in from out of town this weekend, so i doubt i'll be doing much posting today and tomorrow. what i think i'm going to do is take her out to the shopping areas of houston and do some major damage to my credit card accounts. retail therapy rocks!

good weekends to everyone.

09.11.06 :: half-nekkid thursday, part iii

happy hnt! this is probably the most "exposed" i'll ever allow on this site. (i'm already regretting posting this photo as i write this).

i was trying to get crafty with the mirror so that i could show my latest hair-don't and my ass at the same time.

so there you have it. make it a good one.

08.11.06 :: your mother shows up in a nasty dress ...

i'm such the lazy blogger. days and days go by, and no updates for you, gentle reader. and for that, i'm (sort of) sorry. but not really.

i did have a pretty good weekend, however. i saw running with scissors on friday night. i'm embarrassed to say that i have only read part of augusten burroughs' 2002 memoir about his incredibly dysfunctional and off-kilter upbringing (especially since i love the man and i own every book he's ever written).

the movie was really well done. the actors -- in particular annette bening, who plays burroughs' erratic and unstable mother deirdre, and joseph cross, who plays augusten himself -- did such a wonderful job capturing the strangeness of burroughs' chaotic life as described in the book (the part of the book that i read, that is).

in my opinion, bening should be nominated for her role as deirdre. talk about running the gamut of emotions! sheesh! the woman has high highs and low lows to be sure, and bening takes us there, each and every time.

and poor augusten. what choices did he have back then? crazy home life, crazier foster-home life. it's a wonder the boy became the man he is today -- but i'm thrilled that he made it through to the other side. i wonder if the real burroughs is happy with the film? hmm?

that's all the time i have to write today. does everyone have their half-naked thursday photos ready for tomorrow? i know i do ...

02.11.06 :: is it half-nekkid thursday again already?

this photo isn't as risque as last week's, but i can assure you that i'm completely nekkid in my bed. i hope that everyone everywhere has a juicy thursday. friday is upon us. and, like, is it november already? geez. where did 2006 go?
