i
never did write about the wedding that i attended earlier this month.
getting married were myhigh school friend, kristin, and her long-time
boyfriend, mark.the event was held in the ass-backward, podunk town
of chestertown,
maryland.
i
first flew to philadelphia (in pennsyltucky) and made a roadtrip
down to maryland with jenn, a friend who i've known since kindergarten.
except for my best friend, beck, who now lives in atlanta, jenn
is the only other person who i've known for that long (more
than 30 years -- yikes!!) and who i still keep tabs on. jenn lives
in chicago now.
there really are no words to best describe jenn. she's everything:
she's dynamic, sincere,
hilarious, and one of the best friends i could ever ask for. we
had a such a trip on our little trip.
jenn and i stayed together in a little bed-and-breakfast on the
banks of some tributary to the chesapeake bay. we got so lost while
driving around chestertown and the surrounding area. we laughed
until my face hurt. we talked and talked into the early hours of
the morning on more than one night during our stay. we smoked so
many cigarettes! we discussed the life events that got us to where
we are today: the loves, the losses, the trials, the successes.
getting to see and spend time with her was an event in itself.
i also got to hang out with other friends from high school, including
diane and becca. diane and i just cracked each other up from across
the table. chris s. and chris m. also were there. both have been
in recovery at some point in their lives, so it was good to talk
to them and share stories.
the wedding itself was beautiful. i have never seen kristin so happy.
and other than the rain that fell constantly during the 48 hours
i was there, the trip was well worth it. truly a memory-maker.

AM
jesus. halloween magic was such a bust on saturday
night. i heard some chatter on show night -- rumor has it that the
hm board is now dominated by real "actors" who want to
take the annual show in a new direction. i'm sorry, but the show
was -- and always will be -- much better suited for dinner theater,
not regular theater.
of course, my opinion is biased due to the fact that i miss two
of the recurring characters who were notably absent this year: pleasure
and venezuela. [brad and gilbert, you were greatly missed. the show
will never be the same without you guys.] and even as talented as
everyone else was, including scott as wonda june and jimmy (who
always gives a stellar, larger-than-life performance) they just
couldn't support the show on their own. no one particular person
stuck out. no one particular actor was strong enough to hang the
production from. and what about the promo shot below? where was
joel? randy?
i did enjoy the musical numbers (such as it sucks to be me
and gimme some monkey love), but there weren't enough of
them. (i just realized that those of you reading this who don't
live in houston could give a flying fig about what i'm writing about,
so i'll stop. just trust me when i tell you that this is
important on some plane of the universe. thanks for bearing
with my rant.)
in
other news, i've been doing some serious house-cleaning recently
-- both literally and figuratively. i've been concentrating my efforts
on getting rid of shit that i don't need, including the billion-and-a-half
catalogues and magazines that stuff my mailbox every week (she is
such the catalogue queen). how do i get on some of these mailing
lists anyway?
that's on the homefront, but i've also been taking care of business
in my head as of late. lots of "junk" up in there that
needs some serious attention. and i'd like to think that i'm much
better for it (as are all the people in my life).
fall is upon us. get out there and enjoy the cooler weather. bake
something in your oven. carve a pumpkin. call your mother. you get
the idea.
