27.08.05 :: you go girl ... and take those tacky shoes with you

i am so glad that the weekend is upon us. working those 5-day work weeks will be the end of me for sure.

in store for this weekend will be: shopping with my friend, mary, at target (you see, i do mention you in my blog every now and again, mary).

i'm going shopping for some small things for the apartment, but i do want to look into their ipods. i'm in the market for one. i should just break down and get this one. dustie would be so jealous...

speaking of dustie, where is she? i miss her daily rants. she must be otherwise occupied.

more later, kiddies. have great weekends. don't do anything i wouldn't do, which doesn't leave you with much...

24.08.05 :: driving miss crazy

i don't mean to mention the obvious (actually, yes i do), but has anyone noticed that gasoline prices are, like, way out of hand? i thought so. i think that the fact hit me the hardest a few days ago when i spent nearly $50 to fill my 16-gallon gas tank. one thing i hate about when gas prices are high is that those who know that i work for an oil and gas publication ask me (albeit jokingly): "isn't there anything you can do about it?"

it's like, you know, i'll get right on it! there's a meeting of the organization of petroleum exporting countries (opec) coming up soon and i'll fly on over to the middle east and schmooz with the opec energy ministers so that they will produce more oil and then we can enjoy cheap gas again. i'll also convince the american public that it would be all right to explore for oil in the environmentally protected and otherwise restricted areas off the east coast and in alaska so that we won't have to depend as much on saudi oil. and while i'm at it, i'll also convince the u.s. congress to o.k. the building of more domestic refineries so that more gasoline can be produced for domestic consumption. oh, and then i'll fly to venezuela and convince president hugo chavez not to hate the u.s. so much...

but before i do all that, can i get a mani-pedi and shop for shoes this weekend?

23.08.05 :: whirlwind of a weekend

i had quite the full weekend. on thursday, i attended a going-away dinner for a friend who is moving to new orleans. i've known steve for about 2 1/2 years and was actually just starting to hang out with him more as of late. his story is like mine in that i moved south -- away from pennsyltucky -- to get away from where i'd lived my entire life. to experience new things, to meet new people, to stretch my legs...well, we won't go there. steve grew up in and around houston and wanted to break out of his hometown shell. i wish him all the best and i look forward to visiting him sometime in the near future. i'd never been to new orleans...

...i watched some tv over the weekend. caught up on my tbn viewing. i swear, watching this broadcast is like craning your neck to view an auto accident: you just can't look away, no matter how shocking you find what you see. i mean, miss jan alone is reason enough to watch. who does this woman's make-up and hair? worse yet, who sends her out onto the studio stage and says, "you look wonderful, jan. break a leg today." i understand that tbn's message is wholesome enough: create the world's largest christian television network so that people in third-world countries will have no other choice than to view christians with addictions to max factor and bad hair weaves 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. now that's a goal that i can truly appreciate...

...during the day on saturday, it was all about cleaning the apartment (bills, and dishes, and laundry, oh my!). my cat, badger, is still wondering why i haven't been grocery shopping since my north carolina trip. she's like, "and what exactly am i supposed to do with soda water and mayonnaise? get some goddamn food in this place!" i have to make this admission: i do not cook very often, and by "very often" i mean once or twice a year. it's sad, really. i know how to cook, and i think that what i can make turns out pretty good, but since it's just me and the badger, i chose not to. it's so much easier to rely on the thousands of restaurants in the greater houston area to take care of my nutritional needs. expensive? yes. but easier than pretendin' to be betty crocker...

...on saturday night i watched some friends pull out all the stops at a talent show. and sunday was spent with friends: robin in the early afternoon, mark and his family in the early evening, and brandon at night. i saw 4 movies over the course of the weekend. in the theater i saw the skeleton key. it was a very good flick and i couldn't help but think about how much kate hudson looks like her mother. she's like a carbon copy of goldie. amazing. on dvd, i saw the forgotten and denied. then on sunday night i finally saw the classic hush, hush sweet charlotte. bette davis at her finest, and weirdest, for sure...

14.08.05 :: seeing november in august...and other crap

got back about an hour ago from seeing november at the angelika with my friend, jon. although i really enjoyed this flick -- in much the same way i liked memento and the butterfly effect -- my head's still reeling trying to figure out the damn plot. november's audiance was offered three, each with completely different outcomes. i guess what we're left to do is choose the one that we like best. how nice for us.

so i really haven't been writing much. there was my vacation (a little piece of heaven here on earth) and then my home pc was toasted (thank you, don, for getting it back up and running), and the list of excuses goes on and on. point is, i'm back and i've got shit to say, just not right now because i'm falling asleep at the keyboard.

thanks to those of you who still check out my site. i really do appreciate it. and i don't want to let you down (right darc marc? -- sit back and enjoy your coffee and keep checking in daily and we'll see if we can't just keep you entertained each and every morning...)

peace out.

later that very same day ... that was such a short post after being away from the blogosphere for so long, although i do like to be parsimonious with my words. (get to the point, that's what i say). others offer delightful circumlocutions, talking roundabout about nothing in particular, seemingly wasting words to express one simple idea. but i digress...

that said, i would like to share some photos from my trip to the outer banks. i had a great time hanging out, beachside, with my family, especially getting to know my nephews better (i only get to see them twice a year, making me their "strange gay uncle"). for photo captions, hover over each photo. enjoy!
